PROJECT ROOM Tycjan Knut “Old School”
Bank Pekao PROJECT ROOM
Tycjan Knut’s exhibition Old School, part of the Ujazdowski Castle’s Project Room, presented images referring to the traditions of Polish avant-garde paintings of the 1960s and ’70s, in which experiencing abstraction and searching for transcendence was an important element.
Knut is inspired by the works of Polish Geometrists, whose work he’s been following for years; he has managed to remain in direct contact with many of them. Some of these meetings with the artists were documented for self-education purposes and presented at the exhibition.
Although the last 20 years – in particular the 1990s – seemed to indicate the exhaustion of the formula of abstract art, today in contemporary art, interest in geometry-related works is returning. Knut’s work develops this strand.
